Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 Beta

Works.
  • Faster than 8.04, i.e. boots faster and seems to be much more responsive when running on 800Mhz (powersave)
  • Stable (even beta).
  • Supports my wireless with ath5k driver out of the box (farewell, madwifi-hal dkms - 11Mbit max, returned to madwifi :).
  • Reboots fast via kexec() but this does not power-cycle the hardware so it is of no use until we live in a ideal hardware world.
  • Nice New Wave theme with only a few glitches with colors in some apps and checkboxes but otherwise pretty usable.
P.S. Today faced Vista laptop trying to connect to our corporate network. Thanks to autoconfiguration it was completely unable to connect to the wired network. NetworkManager is way more manageable even without all the knobs iproute2 has exposed to the end user… (Ok, I know dial-up cannot be configured easily via NM but this is not something I am missing at the moment. Nobody cancelled pppd and chat)
